Protection from Animals

Protection from Animals

Cloches are a complete protection from birds and also from dogs, cats, rabbits and slugs.

One of the great advantages of cloches is that plants grown under them are not attacked by pests and diseases in the same way as outdoor plants. The turnip flea beetle, the carrot fly and the onion fly are three typical pests which seldom, if ever, damage their respective crops when grown under cloches. The reason is that the pests do not reach the plants so easily, as the glass covering keeps them away. Under cloches many crops are harvested before the eggs of insect pests are laid.

It is important to note that soil pests, such as wireworms and leatherjackets are not affected by cloches at all.
